4 Times Nigerian Artistes Stole Music Concepts From Their Fellow Artistes

With the ongoing Phyno-Pia Mia debacle, it is important to note that some other celebrities have also shamelessly taken concepts from their counterparts.
Pia Mia used Phyno’s song as hers

Now that the media is awash with reports of an American singer, Pia Mia, stealing Phyno‘s song ‘I’m A Fan’; using key lyrics and sound from his song as hers, it is important to note that some other celebrities have also shamelessly taken concepts from their counterparts in other countries, without fear of the consequences of copyright infringement.

Here is a list of celebrities which NET found guilty of creative theft over the years.
    Wande coal

Six months after he released his hit single ‘Iskaba’, Wande Coal releasesd the music video for the song.

But we discovered that the director, Sesan Ogunro merely copied the video to ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars

Their outfits were taken verbatim by Wande Coal and his team, but thankfully, unlike what Clarence Peters and Moe Musa did with Ice Prince‘s ‘VIP’, Tiwa Savage’s ‘Eminado’ and Davido’s ‘Skelewu’, ‘Iskaba’ attempts to put a little variation to it.

Wande made stunts with a classic Mercedes while Bruno Mars was dancing in front of a classic Cadillac.

     Davido

In 2013, Davido was called out for stealing
LMFAO’s video concept for his ‘Skelewu’ video which was directed by Moe Musa.

The singer clearly lifted scenes off LMFAO‘s 2011’s ‘Party Rock Anthem‘ video.

That video starts with RedFoo and Sky Blu waking up from a coma in the hospital, hitting the streets to notice the town has been deserted.

Just when they get on the road, someone comes to warn them about a song that has caused a frenzy in the town, then a bunch of crazy dancers get close to them and start dancing, LMFAO later join the dance.

And guess what, Davido’s video was exactly the same, with the only difference being the faces in the video.
                Ice Prince

His ‘VIP‘ music video which was released in 2013 was also a total clone of US rap group, SlaughterHouse‘s video ‘My life‘ featuring Cee Lo Green (a video which was released a year earlier on June 20, 2012).

The director, Clarence Peters, did not only shamelessly copy the major highlights of the video, he also went ahead to steal footage and implement them in Ice Prince’s video.

    Tiwa Savage’s ‘Eminado’

In 2014, The ‘Eminado’ song which remains one of Tiwa Savage’s biggest songs and had its video directed by Clarence Peters, literally lifted key visual elements and footages off South African rapper, Tumi Molekane‘s ‘Asinamali’ video.

This sparked a social media outrage from the rapper who wrote on Twitter back then, ‘To steal an actual footage from my video is shameful and disrespectful of our Director, DOP and stylists. Retarded.’

But the Mavin crew and Clarence Peters also kept mum about the creative theft.
