    Jay-Jay Okocha Ex Super Eagles Captain Return To Play Football After Hanging His Boot





    Jay-Jay Okocha last week played in a reserve game for English amateur side Wolverton Town prompting reports that he is returning to football. Former Super Eagles Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha  captain is said to be on the verge of making a shock return to active football.

    The former Bolton Wanderers FC midfielder last played for English club side Hull City in 2008 before hanging up his boot. Okocha who is currently the Chairman of the Delta State Football Association (DFA) last week played in a reserve game for English amateur side, Wolverton Town.

    The 41-year-old played 45 minutes for Wolverton’s reserves against Arlesey Town though it is not confirmed if he will be signing a contract with the Milton Keynes club.

    “He did play 45 minutes last week for us but we can’t say either way whether he will sign yet,” Amanda Keech, the  chairperson of Wolverton Town, said. “He is friends with somebody who coaches at the club and could be helping out with pre-season training with the players. We will be able to say more once he has decided.”

    Okocha started his career with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt before spells at European giants Fenerbahçe and Paris St-Germain. His last public game before he played for the Wolverton Town reserve side was in a charity game organized by Zinedine Zidane in April.



    He is fondly remembered by fans of the English Premier League for his time at Bolton where he made more than 100 Premier League appearances. He also helped Hull City win promotion from the Championship in 2008, after playing 18 times for the Yorkshire side.

    Okocha also made 73 appearances for Nigeria, playing in two FIFA World Cup and winning the 1994 African Cup of Nations and a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
